| Experience | I’ve been paddling 14 years; mostly sea kayaking, ranging from remote multi-week expeditions to an afternoon surfing in the North Wales tidal races. I first started in Jersey canoe club in the British Channel islands and soon fell in love with journeying to amazing places. A few years later I quit my job as a multi-skilled program maker in the TV industry to focus on making adventure films. Sea kayaking is my first love but I also really enjoy kayak surfing, occasional river paddling and open canoeing. I enjoy filming them all so I can afford a kayaking lifestyle! |

| Biggest Adventure | Paddling 2400km around the South Island of New Zealand in 67 days with Barry Shaw. I got sick and had to be evacuated by helicopter from remote fiordland. A week later, we walked back to our kayaks and carried on. Changeable weather, winds we could barely paddle against, incessant sandflies and near-constant surf made this the most challenging trip we have undertaken. Every day our stomachs would be knotted with the worry of not knowing where we’d be able to land. Although we weren’t racing and we took a few days off to sightsee, we paddled hard when the wind was behind us which meant we inadvertently completed this journey very quickly. One day we paddled 92km in 11 hours, an average of over 8km/hour (including breaks). You can see the multi-award winning film of this adventure on the DVD, “This is the Sea 4”. |
