Started paddling in Maine at the age of 12, competing for 10 years now, focusing on freestyle.
Achievements
I have been a member of the US Freestyle Kayak Team every year since 2001. I won the 2005 World Championship in squirt boating and took 3rd in the 2008 World Cup. In 2008 I won the Teva Mountain Games for the third time, won the Augsburg World Cup event and the Buena Vista Pro Rodeo and placed third in the 2008 Nationals. I placed top 5 in every event I entered in 2008. I also graduated cum laude from Princeton University with a Bachelor of the Arts in Politics.
Biggest Adventure
I did the Grand Canyon for the first time in 2007 with my wife Katie and 14 other friends. I was awarded the permit through the new lottery system… it was not unlike winning the Lotto, really. We spent 16 days floating and exploring that magical place. Definitely the longest wilderness expedition I have been a part of. People call the Grand the trip of a lifetime, and I would certainly agree. It’s pretty hard to put the experience into words. Floating at the bottom of that abyss is such an intimate experience, communing with nature and sharing the experience with a close group of friends and family. I also discovered a new appreciation for rowing and lounging on a raft as a way to move downriver!
