Sea Kayaking
Age 53
Hometown Gig Harbor, WA
Experience 15 years of paddling dynamic waters of both US coasts and Canada. Even Winters in New England in the early days thanks to my Kokatat drysuit (no socks). I was bitten by the SK bug on a trip to the San Juan Islands in Washington in 1996. Returning home to coastal New England with a fervent mission…to turn the world on to Sea Kayaking, I founded the North Shore Paddler's Network in Boston in 1998, which quickly became the largest club in New England for several years. I found mentors in Derek Hutchinson, Tom Berg, Ken Fink, Peter Casson, and Armand Santos to become an ACA/BCU certified instructor/coach and was soon teaching to any fool that would listen. I also led the I.N.S.A.N.E., a winter sea kayak group (featured in Offshore Magazine in 2000) and the Storm Kings, a small group of skilled and dedicated rough water paddlers. I departed Kayak Academy as the senior instructor in 2011 to start Rogue Wave Adventures, catering to dedicated beyond beginner students, and am brand ambassador for several lines of kayak related products.
Achievements My students top the list. In the last 15 years of teaching, I have had the honor of giving some of the best sea kayakers on both coasts their start in a kayak. Some have gone on to great adventures or are now top instructors themselves.
Biggest Adventure My next dedicated student.
Mission Create the sea kayakers that my students dream of becoming.
