Achievements I think my achievements in kayaking are multifaceted. My all time highlight would be the prelims at the 2003 World Champs in Graz, Austria. I was completely in a different zone and had the best rides of my life. I came 2nd that day by tenths of a point and ended up 5th overall, and it was a moment that I will always remember. My other achievements are that I have paddled in all of the places in the world I ever wanted to go. I remember my first trip to Nepal was magical and a dream come true, as well as going to Chile by myself and my time there on the Futalefu. My other achievement was finishing my documentary Nomads. It was a process that took me years and a lot of blood, sweat and tears and was so worth it! It began from being a team member on Jon Bowermasters sea kayaking expedition, Descending the Dragon, in Vietnam. That was a pivotal trip for me, as it gave me the inspiration to make my own movie and was the beginning of my film career.
Biggest Adventure The first descent of the Po Chu river in Bhutan with Buffy Bailey and Maria Noakes. Just being in Bhutan felt like an adventure then and our whole mission was amazing. Also living in Africa for 6 months on the Nile. Every day seemed like an adventure.
On passion and philisophy Kayaking has shaped my entire life and I will always be entirely grateful to the sport, the rivers and the amazing places I have been lucky enough to experience. I have learned so many lessons along the way: I have lost friends, faced fear, experienced magical places, made lifelong friends, and have tried to pass on what I have learned through teaching and my films. It has brought me to live in New Zealand - a country that I love and first came to on one of my first overseas paddling trips in 1996. I also want to thank Kokatat who has been with me the whole way! Cheers guys!
