| Experience | 25 years as a paddler, coach and messing around in all kinds of boats. |
| Achievements | My entire life has been involved with the outdoors. At an early age I was introduced to rock climbing amongst the Peak District outcrops near Sheffield, England and a school trip to North Wales in 1983 began my passion for paddle sports and mountaineering. Now that I have completed my doctorate (PhD) in expedition leadership, I try to achieve a balance of summers on the sea and winters in the mountains when not lecturing on a degree program for outdoor leaders and adventure sports coaches. Along the way I have gained a number of British Canoe Union awards including the coveted Level 5 Coach (Sea). Also, I was instrumental in establishing the UK Storm Gathering symposiums, and continue to be involved with the events now in their fifth year. |
| Biggest Adventure | Almost any day I’m not in the office. I've been fortunate enough to travel around, work in and explore some truly unique and magical places - Greenland, Alaska, Baja, Norway, Scotland, Wales, Australia, New Zealand - with some equally inspiring friends, colleagues and students. The best adventures often occur when things don’t go according to plan or there is a chance to observe nature in action, be that musk ox, polar bears, black bears, orcas, whales, sharks, dolphins, otters, seals and any number of bird life. |
| Philosophy | To actively encourage, enable and engage those who wish to participate in the outdoors so that it can lead to a positive and sustainable change in their own personal relationship with the world and its subsequent stewardship. |
