Whitewater Kayaking
Age 34
Hometown Hood River, OR
Experience I grew up rafting in Southern Utah and with my family and started kayaking while working as a raft guide in Idaho when I was 19-years-old. I started with sea kayaking and playboating and progressed to creeking and running waterfalls. Now I do a lot of whitewater racing and multi-day self-support trips. I've had the opportunity to visit many rivers around the world, but my favorite place to paddle is the Pacific Northwest.
Achievements My biggest challenge was the day I hiked my kayak 1.5 miles up Eagle Creek to run 82 ft. Metlako Falls. This waterfall is much larger than anything I had kayaked before, but I made the decision to run it and set a new women's world record waterfall descent.
Biggest Adventure My biggest adventure was a fly-in self-support trip to the remote Clendenning River in British Columbia. The river was higher that we had anticipated, turning it into a very continuous class V-VI run. The river continued to rise during the three day trip and all seven members of the group had some kind of ridiculous beatdown in a hole. There were three nerve racking swims and retrieving gear was very challenging. We resorted to several long and difficult portages around the steepest sections of river. It was not easy scrambling through the dense forests of BC with a loaded creekboat, but we worked well as a team and a managed to reach the takeout safely just one day later than planned.
