| Biggest Adventure |
So far my biggest adventure to date is a toss up between the 2 weeks on the Grand Canyon with IMAX, the 5 day trip from hell into far Northern Quebec while running the Petit Mecatina, spending time in the Malaysian jungle with the Orang Asli’s and the most recent 21 day expedition into the Kimberley region. Since the Kimberley is fresh in my mind I’ll talk about that. The Kimberley is the most beautiful place in the world I have ever been. It’s completely untouched, and once you are out in the middle of it you feel like you’re the only person in the world. The trip was filled with so many amazing moments but if I was to single out one particular part of the trip that absolutely fascinated me it would be the Aboriginal rock art. Everywhere we went there seemed to be markings from the ancient past. The Bradshaw images were for me the most beautiful and awe-inspiring. These 30,000 to 50,000 year old painting of long slender black figures took my breath away every time. To rediscover art work of that nature that is tens of thousands of years older then the pyramids and possibly among the oldest rock art in the world is something I will never forget. |
| Philosophy |
For me kayaking is all about pushing myself and the sport to new limits. Whether it be through new exploring new parts of the world, designing new equipment, or innovating new moves my main goal is to push the envelope and see where it will take all of us. The next stop for me is China to explore the many big rivers they have up there and to see what new waves the crew may be able to find. After that it is straight back into the Kimberley to uncover more lost rock art and to venture further into the wilderness. |
