From the end of the world to the Falklands, stage 1

Juan Pablo Dacyszyn, Walter Román Del Grecco and Alejandro Daniel Carranza

The Kayaks to the Lighthouse team of Juan Pablo Dacyszyn, Walter Román Del Grecco and Alejandro Daniel Carranza will commence stage one of the Falkland expedition in February 2011. During this stage the team will paddle approximately 800 km. If successful, the team will join the most austral city of Ushuaia in the Land of Fire with the mythic End of the World Lighthouse in the State Island, both in the south of Argentine country. “This is a difficult journey itself, but has been planned for 4 years as a first step for the big challenge that will link, for the first time by kayak, the city of Ushuaia to the Falkland Islands, including a 400km ocean crossing”, explains Carranza. “For many reasons this may possibly be the most important Argentine expedition undertaken by kayakers, as these islands and others are subject to a centuries-old territorial dispute between Britain and Argentine”. This expedition had been declared of national interest by the Sport Secretary of Argentine Government. The expedition will have three precise route stages; the last one will depend on the authorized landing place. Stage 1 will start from Ushuaia between February 13 and 15 2011, and will be a training practice. In Februrary 2012, the team will complete the expedition, with all 3 stages. To follow the teams progress please visit the expedition blog link below.
